Residents’ Corner: Is psychiatric residency popular?

Psychiatry – with its unique satisfaction in restoring the human element – is the most-rewarding and exciting of all the medical specialties. However, match data suggest that graduating medical students do not share this sentiment. Economic viability, scientific advancement, and better recruitment are needed to improve its popularity. Perhaps one day, psychiatry applicants will sweat alongside the orthopaedic hopefuls.
