Trends in prepregnancy diabetes rates in the United States, 2016 -2021

The number of women with prepregnancy diabetes mellitus (PDM) giving birth in the United States increased approximately 27% from 2016 through 2021. The overall PDM rate per 1,000 births in 2021 was 11. For average-weight women it was 5, for overweight women it was 9, and for obese women it was 22.
