Dr. Collins is an assistant professor of medicine in the health services research section, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX; a physician health services researcher at the Houston Center for Quality of Care and Utilization Studies (HCQCUS), Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center; and a current recipient of the VA's Advanced Clinical Research Career Development Award. At the time of his study, Dr. O'Mally was an assistant professor in the health services research section, Baylor College of Medicine, and as a psychometrician, she was the director of the Measurement Excellence and Training Resource Information Center at the HCQCUS. Dr. Peterson is an assistant professor in the health services research section, Baylor College of Medicine and a statistician at the HCQCUS. Dr. Suarez-Almazor is a professor of medicine in the health services research and immunology, allergy, and rheumatology section, Baylor College of Medicine and a senior epidemiologist at the HCQCUS.
Recognizing the limitations of the medical chart review as a data collection tool, these authors designed and tested an 88-item survey that captures information essential to research in patients with peripheral arterial disease.
