A guide to understanding your anatomy

Author and Disclosure Information

Brought to you by the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons. This video is a free online tool that takes complex medical information about the female pelvic anatomy and makes it simple and easy to understand. The authors offer this video to all patients to help them prepare for an upcoming gynecology office visit. In this video, patients are shown how to perform a self-examination of their vulva, vagina, clitoris, labia, and cervix. The appearance, shape, and size of genitals vary from person to person as much as the shape and size of other body parts. There is a wide range of what is considered normal. Observing her own body can help the patient to learn what is normal for her. The anatomical descriptions will be much clearer if the patient looks at her own pelvic anatomy with a hand mirror while watching the video.
