Endocrine Society Publishes Clinical Practice Guideline on Addison’s Disease



The Endocrine Society guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of primary adrenal insufficiency recommend that acutely ill patients with unexplained symptoms have diagnostic testing to rule out primary adrenal insufficiency, those who have severe symptoms of the condition or adrenal crisis should undergo immediate treatment with medication until diagnostic test results are available, and a corticotropin stimulation test be conducted to confirm the diagnosis when the patient’s condition allows.
