Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the majority of the population at some point in their lifetime. It is characterized by comedones, pustules, and papules. Although there is a general consensus on the pathogenic factors, the sequence of events in acne development is controversial. All acne is truly inflammatory, and by identifying aberrations in the immune response, we can develop targeted treatments for this chronic debilitating disease.
