ORLANDO – Many Colleen A. Kraft, MD, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said in an interview.
The AAP’s policy on caring and supporting these patients is evidence-based, and includes recommendations on providing appropriate health care services for transgender individuals, as well as respect and understanding for families. In the interview,, discussed the role pediatricians have in providing a safe and supportive environment for transgender and gender-diverse individuals and their families.
“[These children] need to be listened to, they need to be respected for who they are, and they need access to the appropriate health services,” Dr. Kraft said.
