M left the hospital the next day and has looked great when his son brings him into the office now. They both enjoy my stumbling attempts at a few Greek phrases as I listen to his heart and lungs. We all smile together at how well he is doing…for now.

Somehow the son has gotten M enrolled into a managed health care insurance plan, so there has been the usual new paperwork and referral authorizations to sign off on. Included among the new forms I find in his chart is a “Verification of Enrollee’s Rights to Express Advance Directives.” Apparently the advance directive instructions can be obtained in various languages. I wonder if intergenerational Greek is one of them.
