NORD Publishes Free Physician’s Guide to NTM Lung Disease

Author and Disclosure Information

NORD has published a new guide for physicians and other medical professionals to the chronic and potentially severe lung disease that can result from contact with a group of bacteria (nontuberculous mycobacteria [NTM]) that exist naturally in soil and water. The Physician’s Guide to NTM Lung Disease was written by Leah Lande, MD, of Lankenau Medical Center and Jefferson Medical College.

There are 140 species of NTM and they are found throughout the natural environment. Most people are not affected by them, but some susceptible individuals develop an NTM infection following exposure that can result in chronic and severe lung disease.

NORD Physician Guides are free and available on the following website: https://NORDPhysicianGuides.org. They are written by rare disease medical experts and are intended to promote earlier diagnosis and optimal treatment for patients with rare diseases.
