Dermatology News Editorial Advisory Board

Leslie S. Baumann, MD, is a private practice dermatologist, researcher, author, and entrepreneur who practices in Miami. She founded the Cosmetic Dermatology Center at the University of Miami in 1997. Dr. Baumann has written two textbooks: “Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice” (New York: McGraw-Hill, 2002) and “Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients,” (New York: McGraw-Hill, 2014), as well as a New York Times Best Sellers book for consumers, “The Skin Type Solution” (New York: Bantam Dell, 2006). She is the founder and CEO of Skin Type Solutions Franchise Systems LLC.

Jeffrey Benabio, MD, is director of Healthcare Transformation and chief of dermatology at Kaiser Permanente San Diego. He is the author of the monthly column “The Optimized Doctor,” which debuted in September 2017. His previous column for Dermatology News was “Digital Doctor.” He is @Dermdoc on Twitter.

Donna Bilu Martin, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist in private practice at Premier Dermatology, MD, in Aventura, Fla., specializing in cosmetic, medical, and surgical dermatology. She coauthored a published chapter in the 2008 textbook "Clinical and Basic Immunodermatology: Clinical Diagnosis and Management" (Springer, 2008), the 2017 textbook "Botulinum Toxin: Cosmetic and Clinical Applications" (Wiley Blackwell, 2017) and numerous articles that have appeared in a variety of medical and dermatologic journals. She has presented her work at national dermatology conferences. Dr. Bilu Martin is a volunteer instructor of dermatology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. She is the author of the Dermatology News monthly column “Make the Diagnosis.”

David Ciocon. MD, is director of dermatologic surgery and cosmetic dermatology, and director of clinical operations in the division of dermatology at the Montefiore Medical Center, N.Y. He is also program director of an ACGME-approved fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology, and assistant professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, N.Y. In addition to general and cosmetic dermatology, his clinical interests include Mohs micrographic surgery, facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, and laser medicine. He joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 2016.

David E. Cohen, MD, MPH, is the Charles C. and Dorothea E. Harris Professor of Dermatology, in the department of dermatology at New York University. He is also vice chairman for clinical affairs, and director of allergic, occupational, and environmental dermatology. He joined the editorial advisory board of Dermatology News in 2005.

Brett Coldiron, MD, is in private practice and maintains a clinical assistant professorship at the University of Cincinnati. He cares for patients, teaches medical students and residents, and has several active clinical research projects. Dr. Coldiron is the author of more than 80 scientific letters, papers, and several book chapters, and he speaks frequently on a variety of topics. He is a past president of the American Academy of Dermatology and of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He currently serves as an alternate AMA delegate for the state of Ohio and is an elected councilor at large on the board of the Ohio State Medical Association. He has written the monthly column the “Cold Iron Truth” a monthly column that has been published in Dermatology News since 2015.

Joseph S. Eastern, MD, practices dermatology and dermatologic surgery in Belleville, N.J. He is a clinical associate professor of dermatology at Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education in South Orange, N.J. Dr. Eastern is a two-time past-president of the Dermatological Society of New Jersey, and currently serves on its executive board. He holds teaching positions at a number of hospitals and has delivered more than 500 academic speaking presentations. He is the author of numerous articles and textbook chapters, and is a long-time monthly columnist for Dermatology News.

Adam Friedman, MD, an associate professor of dermatology and serves as residency program director, director of translational research, and director of the supportive oncodermatology program in the department of dermatology at the George Washington University, Washington. Dr. Friedman is currently investigating novel nanotechnologies that allow for controlled and sustained delivery of a wide spectrum of physiologically and medicinally relevant molecules, with an emphasis on treating infectious diseases, accelerating wound healing, immune modulation, and correcting vascular dysfunction. He holds multiple patents derived from these investigations and has published more than 150 papers/chapters and two textbooks on his research as well as a variety of clinical areas in dermatology, with an emphasis on emerging medical therapies. In line with his clinical and research interests, he serves as vice president of the Nanodermatology Society, vice chair of the dermatology section of the New York Academy of Medicine, as well as a fellow ambassador. He has received multiple awards, including the American Dermatologic Association Young Leader Award, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Cutting Edge Research award, the 2017 Elle Beauty Genius Award, the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology Leader in Photoprotection award, and the La Roche Posay North American Foundation Research award. Dr. Friedman is also committed to resident and medical education. He currently serves as the deputy chair of the AAD Poster Task Force, is the senior editor of the Dermatology In-Review online workshop, Krazy Kodachromes, and is director of the Oakstone Institute’s Dermatology Board Review, and Dermatology for Primary Care series.

Richard G. Glogau, MD, is clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Dermatological Association, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. He developed the Glogau Photoaging Classification scale and is the author of four medical textbooks. Dr. Glogau joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 1993.

Neil S. Goldberg, MD, is in private practice in Westchester County, N.Y. He is a former associate professor of dermatology at New York Medical College, Valhalla, and coordinator of residency training. Dr. Goldberg joined the editorial advisory board of Dermatology News in 1993.

Alice Gottlieb MD, PhD, is professor of dermatology, New York Medical College, Valhalla, and is affiliated with the department of dermatology, Metropolitan Hospital, New York City. She also is director of the complex medical dermatology clinic of Hudson Dermatology in Somers, N.Y. Previously, she was chair of dermatology and dermatologist in chief at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. She is board certified in dermatology, rheumatology, and internal medicine, and is a member of the American Dermatological Association and Noah Worcester Dermatological Society. She is founder and president of the International Dermatology Outcomes Measures Group and is on the executive committee of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). Dr. Gottlieb joined the editorial advisory board of Dermatology News in 2008.

Adelaide A. Hebert, MD, is a professor in the department of dermatology and chief of pediatric dermatology at the University of Texas and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, both in Houston. She has been actively involved in dermatology clinical research, with a strong focus on atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and hyperhidrosis, and has specialty clinics in pediatric dermatology, hyperhidrosis, and vascular anomalies. Dr. Hebert has served on three American Academy of Dermatology boards, and is a past president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology. She joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 2000.

A. Yasmine Kirkorian, MD, is a pediatric dermatologist at Children’s National Health System, and assistant professor of dermatology and pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, both in Washington. She is an expert in laser and surgical procedures and has a special interest in vascular and pigmented birthmarks, and in complex medical dermatology; and is a proponent of holistic and comprehensive care for pediatric and adult skin. She joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 2016.

Kalyani Marathe, MD, is a pediatric dermatologist at Children’s National Health System, and assistant professor of dermatology and pediatrics at the George Washington University, both in Washington. At Children’s, she also is director of outpatient services in the division of dermatology, the medical director of informatics for outpatient services, and participates in two multidisciplinary clinics: a vulvar diseases clinic with the department of pediatric gynecology and a connective tissue disease clinic with the department of pediatric rheumatology. Her interests include pediatric vulvar diseases; acne; genetic skin disorders, including epidermolysis bullosa; pigmented lesions; wound care; vascular birthmarks; and laser therapy. She joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 2016.

Ronald Rapini, MD, is the Distinguished Chernosky Professor and chair of the department of dermatology at the University of Texas; chair of the department of dermatology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; and professor of pathology at both institutions in Houston. Dr. Rapini is the author of the textbook "Practical Dermatopathology" (London: Elsevier, 2nd edition 2012), author of 140 peer-reviewed publications, and has been a speaker at more than 450 major meetings. He is past president of the American Board of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatopathology, and the American Society for Mohs Surgery. He joined the Dermatology News editorial advisory board in 2000.

Phoebe Rich, MD, adjunct professor of dermatology, provides her extensive expertise in nail disease to Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, by directing the nail clinic in the department of dermatology. Dr. Rich received her medical degree at OHSU and received her training from OHSU department of dermatology. Her interest in nail disease began when she was a resident. She supplemented her dermatology training with additional subspecialty training from two nationally known nail experts and, as she began her private practice, she continued to focus her efforts in research and treatment of nail diseases. She enjoys educating her colleagues, residents, and the public on the vast array and importance of inflammatory, neoplastic, infectious, and inherited nail conditions. Her career now spans nearly 20 years and she is internationally recognized for her expertise. Dr. Rich also has put her energies and focus on resident education and mentorship throughout her career and lectures on the science and management of medical and surgical nail disorders locally, nationally, and internationally. She is a founding member and scientific advisory board member of the Council of Nail Disorders, an organization dedicated to research and education about nail disorders and nail science. She also is a member of the European Nail Society and has served on the board of directors of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Alan Rockoff, MD, practices dermatology in Brookline, Mass. He is on the clinical faculty at Tufts University, Boston, and has taught senior medical students and other trainees for more than 30 years. Dr. Rockoff has written the “Under My Skin” column in Dermatology News since 2002. His second book, “Act Like a Doctor, Think Like a Patient,” was published in 2016.

Randall K. Roenigk, MD, is the Robert H. Kieckhefer Professor in the department of dermatology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. He is also the assistant executive director of the American Board of Dermatology and a member of the board of directors of the American Board of Medical Specialties. Dr. Roenigk has coauthored four textbooks and 126 peer-reviewed publications. He joined the editorial advisory board of Dermatology News in 2000.

Roberta D. Sengelmann, MD, practices dermatologic and cosmetic surgery and is director and owner of Santa Barbara (Calif.) Skin Institute. She is an ACMS fellowship-trained Mohs and has been rated a “Best Docs” physician during 2003-2018. She serves as an associate (voluntary) clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, Irvine. She has been awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the ASDS (2007) as well as at Washington University, St. Louis, department of dermatology in 2007. She is codirector of the annual Santa Barbara Dermatology Meeting and has served on the board of directors of several key organizations in her specialty: The American Society for Dermatology Surgery for more than 10 years, the American College of Mohs Surgery for more than 14 years, and the International Transplant Skin Cancer Collaborative for more than 15 years. She was founder and codirector of the Women Dermatologic Surgeons Committee through the Women’s Dermatology Society. She is coeditor of the first edition of Surgery of the Skin, a comprehensive dermatologic surgery textbook; and has authored more than 65 manuscripts, textbook chapters, and abstracts, and sits on the Dermatologic Surgery Editorial Board. She joined the Dermatology News Advisory Board in 2005.

Lily Talakoub, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist in private practice at the McLean (Va.) Dermatology and Skincare Center. A graduate of the Boston University, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, Dr. Talakoub did her dermatology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the author of multiple scholarly articles and a textbook chapter and is a fellow of the American Board of Dermatology. She has received multiple awards in the fields of surgery and dermatology including the prestigious leadership award from the American Medical Association. Prior to starting her own practice, she served in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Talakoub is also a clinical educator for dermatology residents and physician assistants at George Washington University, Washington Hospital Center, both in Washington, and Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., and is an associate professor of dermatology at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond. She is regularly featured in the press as an expert in her field, is a frequent guest on local and national television networks, and contributes to publications including Brides, Shape, Parenting, Self, and more. She has been named a “Top Doctor” and “Top Dermatologist” in Washington Parent since she founded her practice in 2009 and has been named a “Top Doctor” in Northern Virginia Magazine every year since 2011. Dr. Talakoub’s special interests include ethnic skincare, medical and cosmetic dermatology, and dermatologic surgery. In 2010, she cofounded LANARI Skincare, a dermatologist-developed brand that uses a proprietary blend of naturally sourced medical-grade ingredients, a first of its kind specifically made for all skin types. Dr. Talakoub and Dr. Naissan Wesley are the authors of the monthly Dermatology News column “Aesthetic Dermatology.”

Kenneth J. Tomecki, MD, is staff physician in the department of dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, both in New York. He completed his medical and dermatologic training at the State University of New York at Buffalo, followed by a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, in Washington. Dr. Tomecki is a clinician/educator whose expertise covers the full range of adult clinical dermatology. Particular interests are infectious diseases and medical education. He lectures frequently nationally and internationally, and he is the author of more than 100 primary and secondary publications, including more than 40 book chapters.

Robert A. Weiss, MD, is clinical associate professor in the department of dermatology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and director of the Maryland Dermatology Laser, Skin, and Vein Institute in Hunt Valley. He is a past president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is a current member of the board of directors for the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Weiss also is the coauthor of "Sclerotherapy and Vein Treatment: Second Edition" (New York: McGraw-Hill, 2010). He joined the editorial advisory board of Dermatology News in 2005. He is also author of hundreds of publications and dozens of textbooks/textbook chapters and is actively involved with clinical trials of the latest dermatology devices and drugs.

Naissan Wesley, MD, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon. The author of more than 20 published articles in the field cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic surgery, Dr. Wesley was the invited guest editor of the first "Skin of Color" issue of Seminars of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery. She is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Wesley completed medical school and residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Mohs and cosmetic dermatology fellowship at Skin Care Physicians in Chestnut Hill, Mass. She is in private practice and the director of Mohs Surgery at Skin Care and Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, Calif., and also is clinical instructor of dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Wesley and Dr. Lily Talakoub are the authors of the monthly Dermatology News column “Aesthetic Dermatology.”
