In ICUs throughout the world, acute kidney injury (AKI) is becoming increasingly common. Even when the admitting complaint is straightforward, a hospitalized kidney patient can develop  significant complications and require ongoing adjustments in care, as seen in these reader questions. Care of the critically ill patient is never static, and hospital clinicians are advised to keep abreast of the current literature and seek advice from other health professionals.
