ABSTRACTHospice programs care for patients facing life-limiting illness. Although patients and family members report that they are satisfied once they are enrolled in a hospice service, many patients are referred late or not at all. Several barriers and misconceptions about hospice likely contribute to its underuse. We explore these issues and provide guidance to more effectively communicate with patients about hospice services.
