Key clinical point: Pain catastrophizing isn’t a prognostic indicator of poor outcome after knee arthroplasty.
Major finding: WOMAC pain scores improved in high–pain-catastrophizing patients plunged from about 12 prior to knee arthroplasty to 2 afterward, regardless of whether they received a perioperative pain coping skills training intervention.
Study details: This was a 402-patient, randomized, three-arm, single-blind, multicenter, U.S. trial.
Disclosures: The presenter reported having no financial conflicts regarding this National Institutes of Health–funded study.
