Key clinical point: The rates of sexual dysfunction events are higher in both men and women with schizophrenia compared with the general population.
Major finding: Pooled data revealed increased rates of sexual dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia vs. the general population (for both sexes: 3 studies, 49.7% vs. 22.2%; relative risk [RR], 2.24). For men with schizophrenia (7 studies, 57.4% vs 23.1%; RR, 2.63) and for women (5 studies, 60.9% vs 37.7%; RR, 2.07).
Study details: Meta-analysis of 10 observational studies including 3,570 patients, of whom 1,161 had schizophrenia.
