Mucus buildup precedes lung damage in children with CF

Key clinical point: Mucus buildup in the lungs was found to precede structural damage and infection in toddlers with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Major finding: Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid total mucin levels were higher in CF samples versus non-CF controls.

Study details: A cross-sectional cohort study of 46 children with CF.
