In the US, patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) from the Midwest have differential access to outpatient care, which may result in higher emergency department (ED) usage. Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study to compare healthcare resource use and cost of AD among US census regions. They found:
- An estimated total of 6,348,578 patients with AD were pooled.
- Compared to the remainder of the country, Midwest AD patients utilized the fewest ambulatory visits.
- The proportion of patients with ≥1 ED visits was highest in the Midwest, followed by the South, Northeast, and West.
