Postoperative complications may not increase when concomitant surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and/or urinary incontinence (POPUI) is done at the time of gynecologic cancer surgery, a recent study suggests. Researchers identified 23,501 women with a diagnosis of a gynecologic malignancy. They found:
- They most common gynecologic malignancy included uterine (63%), ovarian (25%), and cervical cancer (8%).
- Only 2.4% of women undergoing gynecologic cancer surgery had a concomitant pelvic organ prolapse and/or urinary incontinence (POPUI) procedure.
- The most commonly performed POPUI procedures included anterior and/or posterior colporrhaphy, laparoscopic colpopexy, and midurethral sling.
- There were no difference in 30-day reoperation.
