Hydrogel Surpasses Platinum for Brain Aneurysm Closure

Key clinical point: Hydrogel coil was more effective for intracerebral aneurysm embolization than bare platinum wire.

Major finding: Hydrogel coils had a 4% recurrence rate and platinum wire a 15% rate during 2 years of follow-up.

Study details: HEAT, a multicenter, randomized trial with 600 patients.
