In MS, iron-ringed lesions may add to imaging toolkit

Key clinical point: White matter lesions with iron rings were seen only in patients with MS.

Major finding: Of 392 lesions with iron rings in a cross-sectional study of MS, CIS, and MS mimics, none of the iron-rimmed lesions occurred in non-MS patients.

Study details: Cross-sectional single-center study examining 2,617 lesions; patients had a median 4-10 lesions, depending on clinical condition.
