CSF biomarker clusters correlate with MS severity

Key clinical point: CSF proteins related to astrocytes and microglia are elevated in patients with multiple sclerosis and correlate with MS disease severity.

Major finding: One astrocyte-related cluster (MMP7, SERPINA3, GZMA, and CLIC1) and one microglia-related cluster (DSG2 and TNFRSF25) were significantly elevated in all MS subgroups, compared with healthy controls and patients with noninflammatory neurologic disorders.

Study details: An analysis of proteins in the CSF of 431 patients with neuroimmunologic disease and healthy volunteers.

Disclosures: This study was supported by the intramural research program of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
