Smokers With PE Have Higher Rate of Hospital Readmission

Key clinical point: Smokers with pulmonary embolism are more likely to be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of their index admission.

Major finding: The 30-day readmission rate was significantly higher in patients with tobacco dependence than in those without it – 11.0% and 8.9%, respectively (P less than .001).
