Type 2 diabetes bumps up short-term risk for bone fracture

Key clinical point: Patients with type 2 diabetes face an imminent increased risk of bone fracture.

Major finding: Longer duration of type 2 diabetes increased the 2-year fracture risk (HR, 1.28), as did the use of any type 2 diabetes medication (HR, 1.70).

Study details: An analysis of 2,105 women and 1,130 men enrolled in the Framingham Original and Offspring Cohorts studies.
