AFib link with titin mutations warrants selected genetic testing

Key clinical point: Substantial evidence links loss-of-function mutations in the gene for the titin protein to a markedly increased rate of atrial fibrillation.

Major finding: Among people carrying a loss-of-function mutation in the TTN gene, 14% had atrial fibrillation.

Study details: Genetic analysis of 1,546 patients with AFib and 41,593 controls contained in the UK Biobank.

Disclosures: Dr. Ellinor has received research funding from Bayer, and he has served as an adviser or consultant to Bayer, Quest Diagnostics, and Novartis.
