HCV-infected people who inject drugs also have substantial alcohol use

Key clinical point: Moderate and heavy alcohol use was common in HCV-infected people who injected drugs.

Major finding: Using three proscribed drugs had an AOR of 3.71 for moderate alcohol use and an AOR of 3.65 for heavy use, compared with no drugs.

Study details: A cohort of 1,623 HCV-antibody positive PWID followed from 2005 to 2013.
