PCV13 vaccine reduces frequency of otitis media visits

Key clinical point: Rates of office visits for otitis media dropped significantly in children younger than 5 years after the introduction of the PCV13 vaccine.

Major finding: Between the PCV7 and PCV13 time periods, there were significant reductions in the mean rates of OM visits of 24% and 22% among children younger than 2 years and younger than 5 years, respectively.

Study details: The data come from the U.S. National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey and National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey.
