A point-of-care urine test is on the way for PrEP adherence

Key clinical point: A simple, quick point-of-care urine test for tenofovir adherence, similar to an OTC-pregnancy test, will likely be on the market soon, and will not be very expensive.

Major finding: The test is 100% sensitive, 98.3% specific, and 99.6% accurate versus lab testing.

Study details: Urine testing of 324 PrEP patients

Disclosures: No funding source was reported. The lead investigator had no disclosures, and two were Abbott employees.
