Subtype of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma

Blood; 2016 Apr 14; Jain, Lamb, O’Brien, et al

Early T-cell precursor (ETP) acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ALL/LBL) is a high-risk subtype of adult ALL, according to a study involving 111 individuals.

Investigators compared how adults with ETP-ALL/LBL who received treatment on frontline regimens fared vs those with other T-ALL/LBL immunophenotypic subtypes. Patients were categorized into early, thymic, and mature subgroups. Among the results:

• Outcomes were the same regardless of subtypes.

• 19 patients had ETP-ALL/LBL.

• Rate of complete remission with or without complete platelet recovery rate in these individuals was 73%, vs 91% in those with non–ETP-ALL/LBL.

• Median overall survival was 20 months in patients with ETP-ALL/LBL, vs not reached in non–ETP-ALL/LBL patients.
