BWH classification system better predicts outcomes in HNCSCC

Key clinical point: For patients with head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) tumor classification system is better than the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Staging Manual, 8th edition, at predicting metastases and death.

Major finding: The BWH had a specificity of 93% for predicting metastases or death, compared with 85% for the AJCC.

Study details: A comparison of BWH and AJCC tumor classification systems in 459 patients with squamous cell carcinoma.
