Patient-Provider Survivorship Communication Gaps Persist

Key clinical point: Communication between providers and patients about key aspects of survivorship care still leaves room for improvement.

Major finding: In both 2011 and 2016, many survivors said they did not receive any detailed instructions about follow-up care (35.1% and 35.4%), late/long-term adverse effects (54.2% and 55.5%), lifestyle recommendations (58.9% and 57.8%), and emotional/social needs (69.2% and 68.2%).

Study details: Cross-sectional cohort study of 2,266 survivors completing the 2011 or 2016 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey – Experiences With Cancer questionnaire.
