CRC End-of-life Care: Canada Versus U.S.

Key clinical point: Costs of care at the end of life among patients with a CRC diagnosis are much higher in the United States than in Canada.

Major finding: Mean total costs for all health care resources in the last month of life were 25% higher for the SEER-Medicare group compared with the Ontario group ($17,284 vs. $13,849).

Study details: Cross-sectional cohort study of older adults with a CRC diagnosis dying from any cancer during 2007-2013: 16,565 from U.S. SEER cancer registries and 6,587 from the Ontario Cancer Registry.
