Protective levels of vitamin D achievable in SCD with oral supplementation

Key clinical point: Oral vitamin D3 supplementation can achieve protective levels in children with sickle cell disease.

Major finding: A daily 800 IU dose of vitamin D3 was a protective factor (P = .044) to reach optimal blood levels (≥ 30ng/mL).
