Acetaminophen beats fentanyl in STEMI

Key clinical point: Intravenous acetaminophen for ST-elevation MI pain relief results in markedly higher blood levels of ticagrelor during and after primary PCI than intravenous fentanyl.

Major finding: The ticagrelor blood level 1 hour post PCI was 326 ng/mL in the acetaminophen group and 115 ng/mL in the fentanyl study arm.

Study details: The phase 4, multicenter ON-TIME 3 trial included 195 randomized STEMI patients.

Disclosures: The presenter reported having no financial conflicts regarding the trial, carried out free of commercial funding.
