Knowledge of hepatitis C virus (HCV) status differentially influences the relationship between treatment history and current injection risk behaviors, a recent study suggests. The study sought to assess the role of drug treatment programs and knowledge of HCV status, and how they influence current injection-related risk. Data were collected in 2012 by the New Orleans arm of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance. Respondent driven sampling was used to recruit a sample of people who inject drugs (PWID). Univariate, bivariate, and linear regression analyses were performed. Researchers found:
- The sample consisted of 473 participants.
- History of drug treatment is associated with sterile syringe use among PWID.
- Knowledge of HCV status modifies the relationships between history of drug treatment and sterile syringe use.
