Key clinical point: When bone mineral density was included, both major osteoporotic fractures and hip fractures tended to be underestimated by FRAX in women with diabetes.
Major finding: The FRAX predictive tool underestimated major osteoporotic fractures and hip fractures in women with diabetes when bone mineral density was included (11 observed vs. 4 observed; 6 observed vs. 1 predicted, respectively). Hip fractures were accurately estimated in the women with normoglycemia and impaired fasting glucose.
Study details: The data come from 566 women aged 40-90 years.
