Intensive BP Lowering May Not Reduce Risk of Recurrent Stroke

Key clinical point: Compared with standard treatment, intensive blood pressure reduction provides a nonsignificant reduction of recurrent stroke risk.

Major finding: The rate of recurrent stroke was 1.65% in the intensive treatment group and 2.26% in the standard treatment group.

Study details: A randomized, open-label trial of 1,263 patients with a history of stroke in the previous 3 years.
