Score predicts bariatric surgery’s benefits for obesity, type 2 diabetes

Key clinical point: Researchers developed a formula to estimate the 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease events in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes if they undergo or forgo metabolic surgery.

Major finding: The risk-score model predicted all-cause mortality with an area under the curve of 0.80.

Study details: Derivation of a risk score using data from 13,722 patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes seen at a single U.S. center during 1998-2017.

Disclosures: The work was partially funded by Medtronic. Dr. Aminian has received grants from Medtronic.
