Key clinical point: Psoriasis patients should be monitored for irritable bowl disease (IBD) and managed appropriately according to age.
Major finding: IBD was more prevalent in patients with psoriasis than in patients without. Patients younger than 19 years of age had the highest risk for IBD. Pediatric patients with psoriasis and IBD “may require a different treatment strategy to suppress autoimmunity, employing immune modulators or biologics, rather than conventional treatment,” noted the study investigators.
Study details: This was a nationwide study of Korean patients in a health-claims database from 2011 to 2015.
