Psoriasis patients show increased rates of somatic comorbidity and psychiatric illness

Key clinical point: Skin psoriasis and somatic comorbidity was significantly associated with risk of psychiatric illness.

Major finding: Psoriasis patients with somatic comorbidities had 2.56 times the risk of psychiatric illness compared to those without psoriasis or psychiatric comorbidity; those with psoriasis with no somatic comorbidity had 1.32 times the risk of psychiatric illness.

Study details: The data come from a case-control study of 93,239 psoriasis patients from a Swedish registry and 1,387,495 matched controls from a Swedish registry.
