Inadequate glycemic control in type 1 diabetes leads to increased fracture risk

Key clinical point: A percentage increase in hemoglobin A1c is significantly associated with an increase in fracture risk in patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes.

Major finding: Each percentage increase in hemoglobin A1c was associated with a 7% increase in fracture risk (95% confidence interval, 3%-12%).
