Brain Damage May Strike Patients With COPD

Key clinical point: Some patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) appear to suffer from brain damage.

Major finding: Compared with a control group, patients with moderate to severe COPD showed signs of impairments affecting grey matter density and white matter integrity.

Study details: Comparison analysis of 115 right-handed subjects (26 with severe COPD, 29 with moderate COPD, 29 with mild COPD, and 31 in a control group).
