Obesity Ups Type 2 Diabetes Risk Far More Than Lifestyle, Genetics
Key clinical point: Obesity has a dominant effect on the risk of type 2 diabetes over other risk factors, highlighting the importance of weight management in prevention.
Major finding: Obesity was associated with a 480% increased risk of incident type 2 diabetes regardless of genetic risk status.
Study details: A Danish population-based, case-cohort study of 9,556 participants, half with incident type 2 diabetes.
