Virtual visits may cut no-show rate for follow-up HF appointment

Key clinical point: Substituting in-person visits with virtual, video-based visits is feasible, safe, and may reduce no-show rates for the recommended 7-day post-discharge outpatient clinic visit IN patients transitioning to home after a heart failure hospitalization.

Major finding: No show rates were 50% for the in-person visit and 34.6% for the virtual visit.

Study details: A randomized, single-center clinical trial (VIV-HF, or Virtual Visits in Heart Failure Care Transitions) including 108 patients with heart failure.

Disclosures: Support for the study came from the Hunnell Fund. Dr. Gorodeski reported a disclosure related to Abbott.
