Moderate aortic stenosis just as deadly as severe AS

Key clinical point: The mortality risk associated with untreated moderate aortic stenosis appears to be much higher than previously recognized.

Major finding: The 5-year all-cause mortality rate was 61.4% in individuals with moderate aortic stenosis, similar to the 64.6% rate in those with severe aortic stenosis.

Study details: This was a retrospective study of echocardiographic data on 241,303 individuals in the Australian national NEDA database, including nearly 26,000 with untreated native valve aortic stenosis.
