5-year outcomes similar between PCI and CABG for left main CAD

Key clinical point: PCI may be considered an acceptable revascularization modality for selected patients with left main coronary artery disease.

Major finding: At 5 years, the primary composite of death, stroke, or MI occurred in 22.0% of patients in the PCI group and 19.2% of patients in the CABG group (P = .13).

Study details: EXCEL, a multicenter analysis of 1,905 patients with left main CAD and site-assessed low or intermediate CAD who were randomized to revascularization with PCI or with CABG, and followed for 5 years.

Disclosures: The EXCEL trial was funded by Abbott Vascular. Dr. Stone disclosed having relationships with numerous device and pharmaceutical companies but had no relevant disclosures for this study.
