Smoking, inactivity most powerful lifestyle post-MI risk factors

Key clinical point: Lifestyle change remains powerful cardiovascular preventive medicine.

Major finding: For each of six lifestyle risk factors at target after a first MI, the risks of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality decreased in linear stepwise fashion.

Study details: This case-control study included more than 65,000 Swedish patients followed for up to 12 years after their first acute MI, as well as 325,000 matched controls.
