Key clinical point: Black race is the single greatest predictor of cardiovascular disease events in systemic lupus erythematosus.
Major finding: Black race predicted an overall 500% higher risk of a cardiovascular disease event over 16 years (adjusted hazard ratio, 6.4; 95% confidence interval, 2.4-17.5; P = .0003), with a markedly increased risk during the initial 10 years, starting 2 years before diagnosis (aHR, 18; 95% CI, 2.2-141; P less than .0001).
Study details: A review of 336 patients in the Georgia Lupus Registry
Disclosures: There was no external funding, and the investigators reported no disclosures.
