Cardiac arrests peak with pollution in Japan

Key clinical point: Increases in particulate matter drove increases in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA).

Major finding: Increase in particulate matter counts was associated with a 1.6% increase in OHCAs.

Data source: Analysis of 103,189 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the All-Japan Utstein registry and a time-stratified crossover design using estimates of prefecture-specific estimates of particulate matter.
